YSA lights up the heartlands with Bhangra Bonanza 2012
On 11 November 2012, Cheng San CC was transformed into a vibrant and colourful arena that showcased the best Bhangra groups in Singapore. The second Bhangra Bonanza featured invigorating Bhangra performances in a cultural show with an underlying objective of integration and racial harmony.
Organised by YSA, PA Narpani Pearavai and Kebun Bahru Indian Activity Executive Committee, the three-hour dance extravaganza in Ang Mo Kio featured top Bhangra teams, many of whom included participants from other races and nationalities, as well as dances from other ethnic groups. The 400-strong audience, made up of different races, new citizens as well as those on social assistance programmes, participated in a mass interactive bhangra session, possibly the largest such session ever in Singapore.
Ms Indranee Rajah, Senior Minister of State for Law and Education, graced the event as the Guest-of-Honour while Mr Inderjit Singh, Member of Parliament for Ang Mo Kio GRC, was the Special Guest. The organisers extended an invitation to all members of the Sikh and non-Sikh communities to be a part of this cultural event.
Bhangra Bonanza is a beautiful and fitting way to mark Diwali, the festival of lights, and Bandhi Chhor Divas, a day of liberation marked in particular by the Sikhs, both of which will be celebrated in the coming weekend.
