Sembawang Sports Club organised its annual 9-a-side football tournament on 25 August 2013 to raise funds for Down Syndrome Association Singapore (DSA). True to its belief and focus on helping the needy in our community, YSA participated in the event for third consecutive year.

Held at the Singapore Indian Association, the event attracted 16 teams. YSA nominated two teams for the ‘Above-40’ tournament – YSA X and YSA Z. In addition to raising funds for DSA, the event provided the platform to educate the participants on issues to relating to Down syndrome. At the same time, it promoted a healthy lifestyle among the players. The YSA teams did well to qualify for the quarter-finals where they were ousted during the sudden death penalty shoot-out.

At the end of the half-day tournament, the players and supporters joined the children from DSA for a dinner reception. The event was filled with fun and entertainment. A Bhangra performance by Kohinoor Singapore started the festivities at the reception which also included songs and dances, with the children of DSA thoroughly enjoying themselves. Prizes were presented to the victorious teams as well as sponsors for the event. At the end of the day, the initiative raised more than S$25,000 for DSA which was presented to its representatives during the reception.

The fundraising event was certainly an important platform to help DSA with its programme and initiatives. YSA was delighted to be part of this noble cause.
