YSA’s flag flew high during the Vesakhi Mela celebration at Singapore Khalsa Association on Sunday, 18 April 2004. And the credit for that goes to a group of highly dedicated and enthusiastic under-18 ladies and under-12 boys.

As a part of the Sikh community’s celebration of Vaisakhi and to give the young sports people the chance to compete, YSA registered two teams for the Under-18 netball tournament and one team for the Under-12 football tournament.

The ladies, led by Parveen Kaur, a member of YSA’s expedition to Punjab in December 2003, put up a sterling performance, winning all their group matches and eventually triumphing in the final. The other ladies team also put up a good show. Unfortunately, it failed to qualify for the final.

The Under-12 boys did remarkably well on two accounts. It was unbeaten throughout the tournament and did not concede a single goal on its way to winning the final. The boys won the final on sudden death penalty kicks. The Under-12 boys also emerged group champions of the 1st Khalsa League, again remaining unbeaten throughout the competition. In winning the league, the boys ensured YSA’s name would be inscribed in the annals of the Khalsa League as its first winner.

The Association congratulates our young sports persons for the great show!
