Inaugural “network” hockey tournament a resounding success
It was an opportunity for members of the hockey fraternity to network, interact and just have good fun. And that is exactly what YSA’s 4-A-Side “Network” Hockey Tournament on 6 June 2004 turned out to be.
Held at Kolam Ayer CC, over 200 players and spectators attended the full-day activity. A total of 20 teams participated in some lively games, including a pulsating final between Yaari and Chak De Phateh. After trailing 2-0, Yaari made a come back to force a 3-3 draw just before final whistle, and went on to win the final through a sudden death penalty push.
The funds raised at the tournament were given to the Club Rainbow, to be used for the less fortunate children of our society. The guest-of-honour was Assoc Prof Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister for Community Development and Sports, and Member of Parliament for Jalan Besar GRC. He participated in a hockey penalty competition, where every goal he scored raised funds for Club Rainbow. A total of $1,500 was raised through the competition.
The Guest-of-Honour for the Grand Final and the prize presentation ceremony was Mr Heng Chee How, Mayor, Central Singapore District, and Member of Parliament for Jalan Besar GRC.
The event was supported by Central Singapore District, Singapore Sports Council and Kolam Ayer CSC, while Singapore Pools was the “Partner in Sports”.
