Mr Malminderjit Singh is a Correspondent with the Business Times newspaper where he writes on a wide range of topics including economics, international affairs, public policy and sports. Prior to this, he was an Assistant Director (Trade Division) at the Ministry of Trade and Industry, where he worked on Singapore's economic and trade relations within ASEAN and with its dialogue partners. He has also worked at the Institute of South Asian Studies where, as a Research Associate, he developed expertise in India's foreign and economic policies..

 

Malminderjit dedicates a significant portion of his time to public service. He serves on the Fourth PAP Policy Forum Council as its Assistant Secretary, as a petition writer at the Kebun Baru constituency and as the Legislative Assistant to a prominent Member of Parliament. Within the Sikh community, Malminderjit serves as the Secretary of the Sikh Advisory Board, having been appointed onto the board as a government representative. Further, he is actively involved in the wider Indian community and serves on the Singapore Indian Development Association (SINDA) Youth Club's Executive Committee as its Recruitment Head and on the Singapore Indian Education Trust's Youth Committee (Connexus), where he has led a project team on the development of their eMentoring programme. Malminderjit is passionate about youth empowerment on a national level and currently sits on the National Youth Council's Young Change Makers grant award panel as well as being an active member of the Inspirit national community of young leaders.

 

Besides youth and community work, Malminderjit has also been elected by his industry peers to serve on the Singapore Press Club's Management Committee, for the second consecutive term, and on the Singapore Hockey Federation's committees on Talent Development and Communications. In addition, he is a Mentor to the Citibank-YMCA Youth for Causes programme and plays a leading role in several other projects within the Sikh community. Malminderjit has written and spoken on an array of topics and was invited to contribute a chapter on comparative youth activism in a book published by the Association of Muslim Professionals. He was also the Lead Writer for the Action Community for Entrepreneurship's (ACE) recommendations on Entrepreneurship to the Economic Strategies Committee in 2009. He has been recognized for his achievements by a few organisations and, most recently, by the BMW Foundation, which invited him to join their prestigious international community of young leaders as a Fellow with the BMW Foundation Asia-Europe Young Leaders.

 

Malminderjit graduated from the University of Buckingham in the United Kingdom with an Honours degree in Economics, where he was an active member of the student government, earned a Department Best Performance award and a scholarship, while also spending summer school at Oxford University pursuing his interest in colonial history. In 2008, he completed a Master of Science degree in International Political Economy from the Rajaratnam School of International Studies at the Nanyang Technological University.
